N Scale Building Facade No 1

Armor and aircraft modelers have long had conversion kits, aftermarket parts, that take a nice kit and push it into the stratosphere of detail. My goal with these kits is to make plain Jane DPM kits pop. Unlike the HO versions, these will require some minor surgery to the base kit. Thus you should be comfortable making a straight cut in styrene using a try square and a sharp hobby knife before you purchase one of these kits.

As you can see in the photograph above it is fairly straightforward to remove the molded in storefront and cornice. If you take your time, read the directions, and are careful, I am sure that you will be pleased with your results.

Because you are building the storefront and cornice from individual parts, you have many more options for building a unique structure and much more control over your painting than you would have with the cast parts that come in the DPM kit. In the following photograph you can see three possible variations.

Because the windows are molded into the walls, unlike the HO DPM kit, I have not included replacement windows in the base conversion kit. However, for those ambitious enough to carve out the windows and willing to live with the slight variations and adjustments necessary, I am also offering a window conversion kit (available soon 11/9/11). This window conversion kit is most definitely for an advanced modeler.
